Round Synopsis
The round started with already defined and publically known major powers, Invictus and LDK. Many of the game's better players were spread over these two sides, although GoD looked as if they could get involved in deciding the winner as well, while it seemed that alliances such as a long-standing Shen al'Calhar and newly formed SerpentS were destined to play in the shadow of the major sides.
Although seemingly equal, Invictus and LDK had a very different members structure. Invictus focused mainly on a fairly new playerbase from Planetia, including some of the major players, although their core and command was still made out of experienced Dawn of Myth players, including many of Sinisters and Paladins of Light veterans. LDK had done a good job pre-round, managing to recruit most of the active communities from Round 11, including Eurotrash, WereWolves and RaZoR, and promising newly-formed Skyscrapers. GoD has been active in recruitment as well, and although it couldn't match the numbers of the larger alliances, they have brought Terra communities to their side, as well as a new community formed of members of Golden Circle (established Planetia alliances).
The round started off as a roid initiating race between LDK and Invictus that claimed most of the top ranks since the start. Both alliances seemed very active at this point, and none had even the slightest advantage over each other. Same went for the first night after protection, which was traditionally dedicated to mostly random attacks by most players in the game. But as another day came, it became obvious that LDK and Invictus hesitated to turn against each other, at least that early in the game. The unfortunate victim of this hesitation was GoD, who found themselves under heavy LDK incomings the following night. Not being able to defend against early morning LDK attacks, their communities lost a lot the first night, and even more the following night - the outcome was brutal, and GoD seemed knocked out of the battle for the top at the time. These two nights also gave LDK communities a big push up on the rankings, claiming a lot of ranks over from Invictus that seemed to focus on hitting smaller targets in the meantime.
But the long-postponed war between the two sides had to start off, and so it happened that LDK, feeling confident after recent events, turned their war machinery to target main Invictus communities from the start. Having the advantage of the first hit, and being able to launch en masse during early morning started winning battle after battle for LDK over the next few days, with Invictus struggling in defense at first, but being unable to effectively hit back. Following weeks led to the total domination of LDK, which managed to claim all top 10 communities at a point when Invictus gave up the sturggle. At this point a lot of players went idle, among both Invictus and LDK members, and some communities decided to leave Invictus as well. Remaining alliances, that retained high morale and activity despite the rankings, led by Shen al'Calhar, decided to give LDK a more exciting end of the round than they hoped for. Two of LDK communities fell to the combined incoming armies of Shen al'Calhar and GoD, and at this time LDK showed their traditional weakness in defending. But in the end, the sheer firepower of LDK could not be beaten at such a late stage, and they claimed a safe victory in Round 12.
